February 2, 2015.  The Big Day.  The day we take possession of our rental digs in Weeki Wachee.  We packed up in rain in Kingsland, GA and opted for the road less travelled.  An excellent choice.  Far more interesting than the interstate.  We took said interstate (I95) for the first 12 miles or so, and then diverted to A1A to Callahan.  Then hooked up with US 301 all the way south west to Waldo.  From there, on US 24 through Gainsville (where Ted Bundy was finally brought to ground) and then continuing on 24 to Otter Creek.

I believe that this is a part of Florida that most folks don't see.  Lots of abandoned ramshackle "homes"; the kind that just won't ever sell, and they're just left to decay.  A lot of empty, abandoned commercial properties - restaurants, gas stations, motels etc.  No doubt victims of the development of interstate highways like I 95 and I75.  But still, a pretty good snapshot of what "used to be".

Passing through little town called Bronson, we came upon a cemetary.  Karen noticed a rather obvious grave alongside the road, with a guitar engraved in the granite.  I pulled over for a closer look and, lo and behold, help me mama, save me Jesus, it was the final resting place of the great Bo Diddley!  Oh yeah!  I walked over for a closer look, a quiet moment of reflection on the great man, and took some pics.  What a find!

We stopped at a Publix to stock up on groceries, and then found our way to our new digs for the next 2 months.

First impression?  Oh Oh...  Second impression?  Love it!  This is no "johnnie come lately" FLA gated community type dwelling.  No sir.  This is good ol' FLA 1960's hey day snowbird country.  In the eyes of some, perhaps dangerously close to Trailer Park Boys ambiance.  But the streets are wide, clean and the lawns well kept.  The dwellings are a mixture of "double wide" style and early bungalow.  Its quiet.  Our place backs on a channel that links into the Weeki Wachee river.  We have a small pool and a lanai.  There is no pretension here.  Its as real as it gets, and we just love it!
