February 5, 1915. Nothing yesterday, but a large day today! Picked up a nice little skiff for our use for the duration of our stay. I had been agonizing over whether to tow my 15 footer down with us, and realized that this was not a good idea; for me, the car or the boat. Anyhow, on arriving here was struck by the vast numbers of small skiffs for sale, both privately and in marinas. Long story short, I found the perfect little skiff at Blue Pelican Marina, just 5 minutes down the road in Hernando Beach. Made a deal with the marina where I would purchase the boat outright, but with a written agreement that the marina would buy it back within 2 months at a specified price.
The boat is a 2010 Sea n Sport. Reminds me of a boston whaler. Has a 2003 50 hp Yamaha 2 stroke and a 12 gallon gas tank. Came with a few goodies, like electric trolling motor and an Eagle GPS / Fishfinder combo. The pre-delivery revealed a pooched water pump, so that was replaced. Took it out for a sea trial today, out the channel to the gulf, where we ramped it up to 5000 rpm and (I'm guessing) about 30 mph. A fine, dry and stable craft. Very pleased.
Tomorrow will return to the marina to complete the paper work, get it registered and then they will put it in the water at Rogers Park, which is about 10 minutes (via the Weeki Wachee river) to our place.
The pics below look a bit bleak; we had quite the rain storm overnight, and when I took these, it was still in the process of clearing out. Will add more when the sun comes back!
All in all, a fine day!
She's a fine Ship, for a fine cap'n.. arrgghh
